Sustainability at Atura Dandenong

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Atura Dandenong, we’re shaping a brighter tomorrow with the choices we make today.

And together, we’re choosing better – for our guests, our local communities and this planet we call home.

As a sustainable hotel in Dandenong, a spirit of continuous improvement guides everything we do. From the products we source to the practices we keep, the dedication’s in the detail.

Let us show you around.

Sourcing Responsibly

Sourcing Responsibly

At Atura Dandenong, we believe that sustainability can be stylish, and small changes can make...

At Atura Dandenong, we believe that sustainability can be stylish, and small changes can make a big impact. That’s why we’ve reimagined the way we source, serve, and supply for our guests:

  • Mini to Maxi: Our bathrooms are stocked with full-size shampoo, conditioner and bodywash bottles, which are refilled rather than replaced when empty. This means less single-use plastic, which is a win all round.
  • Bunji by Yarn’n Products: Our toilet paper and tissues are supplied by Bunji by Yarn’n, an Aboriginal-owned business and Supply Nation-certified supplier. Even better, 50% of their profits go towards supporting First Nations youth, so it’s a small detail that helps make a bigger impact.
  • Phasing Out Plastic: Refillable filtered water stations in public spaces make it easy to stay hydrated without single-use bottles & replacing water to purchase in aluminium cans
  • Less is More: In room pens and pads are now available only on request, reducing unnecessary waste while still keeping you covered.
  • Locally Sourced & Loved: From our dining venues to minibars, we work with suppliers from the local region, who share our sustainable vision where we can – fresh, local, and seasonal.

Together, these steps show that small, thoughtful choices – whether in sourcing, service, or day-to-day operations – can create a big difference for our planet and community.

Designing for the Future

Designing for the Future

We’re building sustainability into the way we update and run the hotel: We’re continuing to...

We’re building sustainability into the way we update and run the hotel:

  • We’re continuing to roll out LED lighting and energy-efficient equipment across the hotel. Where practical, lighting is on a sensor or timer so we’re not lighting up empty rooms.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations available for guests
  • Accessing energy and water efficiency of new equipment when replacing assets.
  • Switching from water-cooled to air-cooled chillers to save water .
  • Landscaping with native, drought-tolerant plants
  • Water Smarts: Low-flow taps and dual-flush toilets, that save thousands of litres of water each year without compromising your comfort.
  • Digital Style:  Paperless check-in, digital business cards, and digital compendium keep everything sleek and efficient.

Internally, we foster a culture of environmental stewardship through regular training, team engagement and community collaboration.

Playing Our Part

We’re choosing to respond to a changing climate, empower our people and customers to take...

We’re choosing to respond to a changing climate, empower our people and customers to take part, and share our progress along the way. Small changes add up and its even better when the greener choice is the easier one! So far we have:

  • Room Refresh: Staying a couple of nights? Skip daily housekeeping to help save water and energy and we’ll say thanks with a $10 food and beverage credit to enjoy during your stay.
  • One Key: Guests are provided with a single key card, which powers the room. Take it with you when you leave and the power and air con switch off automatically, cutting energy use while you’re out.
  • Reduce and Recycle: Separate recyclables from general waste utilising the dual bins located in your rooms – our housekeeping team will take care of the rest. Food waste is also separated within our kitchens to support further diversion from landfill.
  • Sip Responsibly: Bring a reusable bottle and refill it at our public water stations to cut down on single-use plastic.
  • Staff Training: Every team member completes the Sustainability at EVT e-module, with ongoing access to keep their knowledge fresh.
  • Container Deposit Scheme: We’re proud to take part in Victoria’s container deposit scheme. Eligible bottles and cans are collected, returned and recycled, keeping them in the loop instead of landfill.
  • Brewery Waste Reuse: At Brownstone Micro Brewery, our spent grain doesn’t go to waste. It’s collected by a local farmer and repurposed as feed for livestock, keeping waste out of landfill while supporting the local agricultural community.
  • Conference with Care: We’ve ditched single-use stationery from our conference packages, and delegates are encouraged to bring their own notebook or digital devices. Bottled water and soft drinks are out too, replaced with refill stations for chilled beverages.

Our team can also choose to participate in the EVT Stretch Contributions program.

We’re proud to be part of our community and we like to keep things local where we can.

  • Local Partnerships: From food and drink to suppliers, we love to prioritise local Victorian businesses, supporting the community while cutting down on food miles. We stock artisanal gifts from local creators to share with our guests
  • Community Engagement: We get behind local initiatives and events wherever possible. From sponsoring local sports teams and car clubs to our partnership with Bunjil Place in Narre Warren, it’s important to us to contribute to the area we’re part of.
  • Support biodiversity, conservation and environmental restoration initiatives in local communities.

You can help

Join us in choosing to protect our environment

We encourage our guests to choose to support sustainable tourism through the following simple actions:

  • Use water efficiently and choose to skip linen changes to save water and energy and be rewarded with F&B gift voucher as mentioned already in our Room Refresh initiative.
  • Use energy efficiently and when leaving your room choose to make sure all lights, air conditioners and devices are switched off.
  • Never litter and reduce and recycle where you can. Separate recyclables from general waste utilising the dual bins located in your rooms – our housekeeping team will take care of the rest.
  • Use reusable water bottles to minimise use of single use plastics bottles and try to use reusable grocery bags when you go shopping.
  • Reduce emissions, meet the locals and immerse yourself in the culture by using public transport. If renting a car, opt for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles or hybrid or electric vehicles. EV charging facilities are available on-site.
  • Atura Dandenong does not sell any souvenirs but encourages guests to consider the origin of items when purchasing souvenirs while travelling and to avoid purchasing any heritage artefacts or items derived from rare or threatened species.
As an EVT Hotel, Atura Dandenong is committed to doing business in a way that contributes to a better tomorrow for our customers, our communities and our environment.
