How we're choosing better at Atura Adelaide Airport
Sourcing Responsibly
Say goodbye to single use plastics, this is implemented in a variety of ways including:
- Bathroom amenities in refillable pump bottles
- Water refill stations for guests to use to reduce plastic bottles
- Minibar plastic bottles replaced with aluminium cans/glass bottles
- Selected locally brewed beers delivered by keg to reduce glass bottle and cans waste
- Replaced plastic pens with a biodegradable rolled paper-based pen
- Digital kiosks to reduce use of paper during check-in and check-out
- Use of BioPak products to reduce landfill waste and lower emissions
Designing for the Future
We’re building sustainability into the way we update and run the hotel:
- Energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors across the hotel
- High-efficiency appliances installed during upgrades
- Air conditioning systems with low impact refrigerants
- Switching from water-cooled to air-cooled chillers to save water
Internally, we foster a culture of environmental stewardship through regular training, team engagement and community collaboration.
Our team can also choose to participate in the EVT Stretch Contributions program, donating a portion of their weekly pay to charitable organisations, including biodiversity conservation funds such as Conservation Council SA.
Playing Our Part
We’re choosing to respond to a changing climate, empower our people and customers to take part, and share our progress along the way.
So far, we have:
- Made towel and linen reuse available in every room by introducing an incentive called ‘Go Green’. This initiative is to encourage guests to say ‘no thanks’ to housekeeping, with a $10 food & beverage voucher each night a guest chooses to help us to reduce water and energy consumption.
- Implementation of an organic waste collection program by WasteFlex for external composting.
- Recycling bins are provided throughout back-of-house operations and public areas to encourage waste separation and recycling.
You can help
Join us in choosing to protect our environment
We encourage our guests to choose to support sustainable tourism through the following simple actions:
- Use water efficiently and choose to skip linen changes to save water and energy. Each time you say ‘no thanks’, you’ll get a $10 food & beverage credit to use during your stay.
- Use energy efficiently and when leaving your room choose to make sure all lights, air conditioners and devices are switched off.
- Never litter and recycle where you can. At Atura Adelaide , our hotel manages waste by encouraging guests to use recycling bins located throughout public areas, supporting the separation of paper/carton, mixed recycling, and landfill waste.
- Use reusable water bottles to minimise use of single use plastics bottles and try to use reusable grocery bags when you go shopping.
- Reduce emissions, meet the locals and immerse yourself in the culture by using public transport. If renting a car, opt for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles or hybrid or electric vehicles.
- Atura Adelaide Airport does not sell any souvenirs but encourages guests to consider the origin of items when purchasing souvenirs while travelling and to avoid purchasing any heritage artefacts or items derived from rare or threatened species.
